ati xpress 1100 slackware-current

Pessoal é o seguinte tenho um acer aspire 3100 com slackware-current instalado rodando o kde 4.2.3 depois de muiiiiitoooo tentar instalar o driver proprietario da ATI para a placa de video que é uma xpress 1100 de 256 mb no kernel novo, já que não obtive sucesso resolvi tentar o driver open source, pois uso o kde 4.2.3 e gostaria de ter os efeitos habilitados ja que esta placa não é lá grande coisa mas até o kernel 2.6.28 rodava sem problemas com o driver proprietario da ati. Rodei o comando X -configure coloquei os seguintes comandos no rc.local:
modprobe agpgart
modprobe ati-agp
modprobe drm
modprobe radeon

depois disso rodo o glxgears e aparece as catracas rodando meio devagar mas os efeitos do kde4 não funcionam de jeito nenhum, será que alguem pode me ajudar a resolver isso
