Erro ao encontrar pacotes no ubuntu

Olá galera, sou novo no universo linux, estou usando o ubuntu 10.10,
más estou com um problema ao instalar programas, ao digitar o comando no terminal:

sudo apt-get install fp-ide

ele aparece mensagens de erro,

Lendo listas de pacotes... Pronto
Construindo árvore de dependências
Lendo informação de estado... Pronto
E: Impossível encontrar o pacote fp-ide

E também ao digitar o comando

sudo apt-get update
ele aparece várias mensagens de erro

E: Alguns arquivos de índice falharam para baixar, eles foram ignorados ou os antigos foram usados no lugar.


Também tentei atualizar pelo synaptic e mesmo assim dá erro, ele pede pra mim verificar a internet, más consigo acessar internet no navegador normal.

Se alguém puder me ajudar, desde já agradeço.
