Stopping MySQL database server: mysqld failed! [RESOLVIDO]

Pessoal,

Meu mysql parace que não esta funcionando corretamente.
Ao fazer o comando:
root@andes:# /etc/init.d/mysql status
Warning: World-writable config file '/etc/mysql/debian.cnf' is ignored
/usr/bin/mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed
error: 'Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)'
.

E ao tentar reiniciar com o comando:
root@andes:# /etc/init.d/mysql restart
Stopping MySQL database server: mysqld failed!
Starting MySQL database server: mysqld already running.

Tem algo de errado não tem? Alguém tem uma dica que eu possa tentar fazer para arumar isso?

Versão MYSQL: 5.1.63
S.O. Debian 4.3.5-4 - Squeeze

Roda ps aux | grep mysql e posta o result aqui pf.

Faça o que o amigo acima disse, e acompanhe o /var/log/message

Se der erro, poste aqui.

Galera, parece que com a permissão 600 rolou!
Olhem a saida dos comandos agora:

root@andes:# /etc/init.d/mysql restart
