instalando placa de video Nvidia

estou com problema com o driver Nvidia.
quando abro o Nvidia Server Settings ocorre esta mensagem de erro
"You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig` as root), and restart the X server."

ja tentei de tudo
alguma sugestao?
segue abaixo o lspci da minha maquina.

Vc rodou isso?

sudo nvidia-xconfig

Reinicie após rodar.

Rode isso:

cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf

e cole o resultado aqui.

Faz esse procedimento com o ambiente gráfico parado.

ctrl+alt+F1
su
usuario e senha root

/etc/init.d/gdm stop (ou troca o gdm por outro ambiente gráfico ex:kde)

Depois tenta fazer esse procedimento do nvidia-xconfig novamente.


Caso não consiga tenta isso.

Tenta isso baixa a sua versão direto da nvidia em : http://www.nvidia.com.br/Download/index.aspx?lang=br

Antes de instalar o driver nvidia tem que desativar o módulo de video que está ativo atualmente.

Abra o "/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf" e no final do arquivo coloque:

blacklist nouveau

Depois

apt-get remove --purge xserver-xorg-video-nouveau

Reinicio o micro para que suba sem o nouveau.


Depois

ctrl+alt+F1
su
usuario e senha root

/etc/init.d/gdm stop

no arquivo baixado:
# chmod +x NVIDIA-Linux-x86_x.x.x.run

# ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86_x.x.x.run


#/etc/init.d/gdm start

segue abaixo o xorg.conf instalado no minha maquina
(este xorg.conf eu copie aqui do Vivaolinux pois apos instalar o nvidia, a tela ficava deformada com imangem so no centro da tela com imagem para tela 4:3. para resolver este problema copie um xorg.conf aqui do forum. o xorg.conf anterior que deformava a tela segue no final do texto)

wosores ,
quando instalei segui a dica do forum e desativei todos dos driver de video. inclusive o nouveau.

minha maquina nao tem o gdm
tem um tal de lightdm(?)

sera que por causa disto esta tendo este problema ?

Quando executa o driver que foi baixado na nvidia o ambiente gráfico tem que estar desativado, a instalação só funciona dessa forma.

Faz isso novamente:
ctrl+alt+f1

pare o ightdm
# service lightdm stop ou #/etc/init.d/lightdm stop

e tenta executar o run novamente.

Antes dá uma olhada no nouveau pra ver se parou mesmo

#lsmod |grep nouveau

se aparecer tenta o procedimento de para o noveau novamente.

Seu xorg.conf está com o driver da nvidia habilitado (o correto).

Reinicie o computador, entre com seu usuário, abra o terminal e veja se vc tem aceleração gráfica:

glxinfo | grep direct

sudo apt-get install mesa-utils
