Tente excluir o /etc/X11/xorg.conf no Linux Mint, se esse arquivo existir.

É muito estranho, outros usuários do fórum do Mint conseguiram instalar esse driver de vídeo sem problemas.

Você já tentou rodar um sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade antes de instalar o driver?

Londreslondres, você está certo e pelo que li na documentação do Openchrome parece que ele menciona suporte ao Ark Linux e ao Ubuntu 8.04. Esse também é um driver antigo, mas não tanto quanto o Unichrome. Talvez se usar uma dessas distribuições que a documentação fala que suporta talvez resolva o problema. Pelo o que eu li ele é mais bem suportado em distros de 2005 a 2008.

Também estou com um PC antigo com gráficos UniChrome! Tentei compilar um kernel com o módulo VIA DRM compilado mas não deu certo! Até desisti e estou tentando passar ele pra frente mas ngm quer kkkk tô casado com esse PC

Foi mal pelo sumiço.
Por questões de desempenho, eu reinstalei o Debian 10 + XFCE na máquina e compilei o driver seguindo essa dica: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/OpenChrome. Sei que não é muito bom seguir tutoriais antigos, mas já que a máquina é de testes...
Após compilar, desinstalei todos os pacotes do MESA com o comando
# apt remove mesa-* 

Não tenho certeza se o driver realmente foi ativado, mas a resolução está normal e ao chamar o screenfetch ele reconhece S3 Unichrome Pro. Além de um desempenho um pouco melhor em gráficos 2D.
