Não consigo instalar o proftpd

Pessoal, estou tentando instalar o proftpd e não estou conseguindo. Já baixei o software, pede pra o rodar o comando ./configure e logo em seguida ele compila. Depois ./INSTALL mas fica ftp>, não sei o q colocar.

Se alguem puder me ajudar, agradeço.

Tenta fazer assim
./configure --sysconfdir=/etc
make
make install

Depois cria o arquivo de configuração dele
vi /etc/init.d/proftpd

Dê permissão
chmod 755 /etc/init.d/proftpd
Adicione ele na inicialização
chkconfig --add proftpd
Inicialize o serviço
/etc/init.d/proftpd start
