erro com a central de programas

oi sou novato no ubuntu, e logo de cara surgiu um problema quando tento instalar qualquer programa pela central de programas aparece a mensagem de erro, Falha ao baixar informações do repositório, verificar sua conexao com a internet, mas eu estou conectado, minha versão do ubunto é 14.10 mais detalhes sobre o erro, agradeço muito se alguem poder me ajudar

Pegue uma versão mais recente do Ubuntu.

Ubuntu-14.10 está sem suporte desde julho-2015. Portanto não será possível atualizar e instalar novos programas.
Sugiro que instale versão 15.10 ou 14.04-lts
