O log gerado no arquivo /var/log/messages tá assim:
 - unable to open TransferLog '/var/log/xferlog': Permissão negada
 - notice: unable to use '~/' [resolved to '/home/gabriel/']: Permissão negada
 - Preparing to chroot to directory '~/'
 - gabriel chdir("/"): Arquivo ou diretório não encontrado
 - FTP session closed.
Aí pensei "se tá dando permissão negada vou dar um CHMOD". Mas não resolveu.
Será que dá pra alguém me ajudar aí?
