Instalei o Google Earth, de varias fontes, mas todos apresentam o mesmo problema, abre e logo em seguida fecha sozinho, ja desativei as notificações iniciais, que em alguns lugares dizem ser o problema, mas mesmo assim ele continua fechando sozinho. Alguma ideia?

É bug do Google Earth.

No primeiro link tem algumas instruções que você pode tentar, se realmente vale a pena para você usar este programa. Só para informação, no Gentoo o Google Earth está, vamos dizer banido, faz uns 2 anos.

"The problem you are seeing is caused by buggy Qt libraries bundled with the GE package you downloaded. Please see amirpli's posts in This Thread. It's 5 pages long.

If you want to make the installation of the new libraries and googleearth a little simpler, you can extract amirpli's Archive into Downloads and move the files into /opt/google/earth/free. I had to do this with sudo in a terminal. Also move libqgif.so and libqjpeg.so from the new plugins folder into /opt/google/earth/free/plugins/imageformats. Be sure you have libfreeimage3. To improve the appearance of GE uncomment style="-style Cleanlooks" in the new googleearth per amirpli's instructions."

Tentou abrir via terminal para ver se tem algum erro/warning mais útil? Arquivo binário é ruim de arrumar.
