Boa tarde , gostaria que meu linux iniciasse em modo texto com o startx habilitado , ou seja apos o login se acionar um navegador por exemplo ele abrisse no modo grafico ..

Qual distribuição?
Ubuntu mesmo?
Qual ambiente gráfico?

é um tori os , baseado no ubuntu 12.04 .... sobre o ambiente gráfico não sei te dizer .... vou tentar o comando que você mencionou abaixo ...
