1. Log de erros - rede caindo [RESOLVIDO]

Olá
Sou (meio) iniciante em linux, mas até que consigo me virar :)
Estou tentando implantar um servidor Slackware 13.1 aqui na empresa, e compartilhei alguns diretórios via samba.

Só que em alguns momentos a rede cai sem motivos. O servidor não reinicia nem nada, mas perdemos acesso ao servidor por alguns instantes.
Depois de 1 ou 2 minutos volta tudo ao normal, mas é um problemão para nós.

Não sei se é problema de hardware, pois antes tinha Windows 2003 e funcionava sem problemas.
Já tentei pesquisar no diretório /var/log, mas não sei exatamente onde procurar.

Minha dúvida é: quais logs posso consultar para identificar o problema?
Eu encontrei alguns logs, mas gostaria de saber um lista de todos os lugares onde posso achar um log para ficar de olho nos erros que possam ocorrer.

Agradeço muito as dicas dos mais experientes ;)

desta primeira analise verifique se a placa de rede ou cabo estao apresentado problemas.
rode dmesg para verificar se há erros de hardware e também pelo mii-tool para verificar se o cabo está apresentando mal contato.

Deixe em um terminal secundário, caso nao conheça control+alt+f2, executando o top para verificar o consumo de recursos e processos.

Pelo que pude entender, a conexão eth0 está ok, certo?

o "top" também parece estar ok. Existem 2 processos "smbd" que se destacam, consumindo CPU e RAM a mais que os outros.

mesmo no final apresentou dois estabelecimentos da rede eth0. A respeito deste erro do smclient, é bom dar uma pesquisa para saber. neste momento nao estou podendo constar.
Mas quando a apresenta a intermitência, você consegue pingar, e ou acessar via ssh este servidor ?
pode conferir se há algum cabrito com mesmo ip na rede ?

Se puder acompanhar o load da maquina pelo top, o cabo e a estrutura. já isolamos os possíveis problemas.
outro detalhe, quando tiver oportunidade desative o audio, gameport na propria bios.

Então, eu reiniciei a máquina e aqueles problemas do "smbclient" não estão mais aparecendo quando rodo o comando dmesg.

Sobre o ping, eu não tentei. Vou tentar da próxima vez.
Sobre o ssh, eu estava conectado via putty da última quando ocorreu, e perdi a conexão

Conferi e está OK

Estou acompanhando o top da máquina via putty, mas a principio está ok, não vi nada de anormal.

Então, depois que reiniciei a máquina, sumiram aqueles erros, e não ocorreu mais o problema até agora.
Você acha que podia ser este o problema?

6. Placa de rede off-board

Recomendo verificar a troca da placa de rede por uma off-board de boa qualidade. Parece mito, mas já tive um gateway sobre uma máquina generica, que parava de trafegar ou responder de modo aleatório.

Acredito que o problema tenha cessado, mas não resolvido, ao apresentar confira os logs importantes como : syslog, messages,daemon.log.

Ocorreu novamente o problema agora à pouco.

Dei ping na máquina, mas não conseguiu encontrá-la (nem pelo nome de rede, nem pelo IP direto).
Vou analisar os logs, mas encontrei uma informação interessante.

Se eu rodo o comando "ifconfig eth0", ele retorna o seguinte:

Boa tarde

Troquei a placa de rede (coloquei uma realtek RTL-8139D), mas o problema continua. Apesar que diminuiu bastante, agora ocorre 1 ou 2 vezes por dia.

Tem outro detalhe importante que me foi noticiado: quando ocorre o problema, se alguém for na máquina e mexer o mouse ou no teclado, ela volta a responder!
Parece como se ela estivesse "hibernando", mas não sei se é possível isso. O servidor está em modo texto, sem gerenciador de janelas ativo.
Existe alguma configuração no slack nesse sentido?

Para resolver, tive que mudar do Slack para o Debian Lenny, aí funcionou tudo certo.
