Erro para rodar ambiente grafico no Ubuntu Server

Pessoal, bom dia.
Aluguei um servidor VPS com Ubuntu 16.04 x86_64, porém sou iniciante e não sabia que não vinha com ambiente gráfico.
fiquei tarde e noite ontem tentando aplicar o ambiente gráfico no servidor seguindo estes comandos:

procedimentos de update requeridos
pelo servidor
# apt-get update
# apt-get install ca-certificates
# reboot

Em seguida:

Comandos para ambiente gráfico:

# login
# sudo -s
# sudo apt-get update
# sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
# startx

Quando envio o comando startx acontece isso:

Os servidores Linux, geralmente nunca vem com interface gráfica, porque esse é o método correto de usar os servidores. (instalar só o que é essencial)
E se você estiver usando ele remotamente, é pior ainda, porque vai torna a utilização dele mais lenta. Recomendo que você estude o básico para poder usar ele pelo terminal.

Mas caso queira usar a interface mesmo assim. Tenta instalar um ambiente leve como XFCE4 ou I3.

sudo apt install xfce4

echo "exec startxfce4" >> .xinintrc 

sudo apt install i3

echo "exec i3" >> .xinintrc

qual a necessidade de ter o ambiente gráfico ?
