Vi várias versões (cd, dvd etc.), umas tinham até 4GB de tamanho, mas tem outras que são bem mais leves... Mas qual eu devo baixar? Sou um usuário comum, vou só ouvir música, mexer na internet e baixar o steam pra jogar e talvez o Wine tbm. Qual é a mais recomendada?

escolha 32 bits ou 64 bits, conforme seu comp seja 32 ou 64.
aí vc escolhe.
a priori, vc pode instalar mesmo com o CD.
a diferença, é que nos DVDs outros pacotes estão no DVD, e nos CDs,. muitos pacotes estarão na internet e precisarão ser instalados.
ou seja se vc quer instalar pouca coisa,ou quer instalara muita coisa pena net, use o CD.
mas se quiser um debian que já veja com muita coisa instalada, escolha os DVDs grandes.

Basicamente vc tem 3 opções de download para instalação - netinstall, CD e DVD.

netintall - contém apenas o núcleo básico do sistema e requer uma conexão com a internet durante a instalação.

CD - só precisa baixar o primeiro, instala o ambiente gráfico padrão, mas o sistema instalado vem bem limpo.

DVD - também só precisa baixar o primeiro, tem mais opções do que instalar e é mais completo que o CD.

Os outros CD/DVD's contém todos os pacotes do sistema, são necessário apenas se vc quiser usá-los como repositório off-line para instalações de pacotes adicionais sem uma conexão com a internet.

Há também 3 escolhas sobre o sistema em si - stable, testing e unstable

stable - é a versão estável do Debian, atualmente com o codinome Wheezy. É mais estável, no entanto, os pacotes são desatualizados em relação a outras distros.

testing - contém pacotes mais atualizados que o stable. Essa é a versão de testes.

unstable - é mais atualizado que o testing, mas sem garantia de estabilidade.

The answer is a bit complicated. It really depends on what you intend to do. One solution would be to ask a friend who runs Debian. But that does not mean that you cannot make an independent decision. In fact, you should be able to decide once you complete reading this chapter.

If security or stability are at all important for you: install stable. period. This is the most preferred way.

If you are a new user installing to a desktop machine, start with stable. Some of the software is quite old, but it's the least buggy environment to work in. You can easily switch to the more modern unstable (or testing) once you are a little more confident.

If you are a desktop user with a lot of experience in the operating system and does not mind facing the odd bug now and then, or even full system breakage, use unstable. It has all the latest and greatest software, and bugs are usually fixed swiftly.

If you are running a server, especially one that has strong stability requirements or is exposed to the Internet, install stable. This is by far the strongest and safest choice.

The following questions (hopefully) provide more detail on these choices. After reading this whole FAQ, if you still could not make a decision, stick with the stable distribution.
