O sistema operacional está totalmente mudo...
Vi alguns tutoriais mas nada resolveu.

Só pra garantir, roda um alsamixer e veja o volume e se não está mudo (com um MM)

Acrescentado! Rode o alsamixer como root.
aperte F6 no alsamixer para escolher a placa, pois nem sempre a que esta como padrão é a que o alsamixer mostra.

Depois de aumentar o volume rode o comando para salvar as configurações:

alsactl store

O alsamixer estava com o volume no maximo(nao estava com MM), e eu testei nas 2 placas( a defalt e HD-audio generic) mas nada :(
